One of my favorite matchups to cover every year in the NWAC is Lower Columbia vs Tacoma. It doesn’t matter when the matchups occur during the season or what the records are, both teams always come out full of energy and give it their best.

Game one was another great game between these two rivals. To be completely honest Tacoma dominated 8.2 innings of the game but it was the .1 that would be the difference. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th Tacoma would allow 4 unearned runs to cross the plate and that ended up being the difference.

Kyle Dunning was solid in the start for Tacoma, only allowing 2 earned runs, and reliever Brady Houston came in to not allow a run to keep Tacoma in the game.

Offensively Josh Trujillo continued his strong start with 3 more hits in the first game.

For Lower Columbia Ethan Stacy and Matthew Schwarz would be key for LCC. Stacy would be the only LCC hitter with multiple hits and he would score twice. Schwarz would lead the team with 3 RBIs.

Game 2 would start on a high for Tacoma in the top of the 2nd inning they would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead on a monster home run to right field by Hunter Jenkins. Though that wouldn’t last for long.

LCC would start to get the momentum back by putting up 2 runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings before blowing things wide open in the 5th.

Everyone knows that to win the West Region you have to beat Lower Columbia and you have to do it on their home field. Tacoma had the chance to win the first game, and even out played LCC in the first game but out playing a team and winning the game don’t always go together.

I still see Tacoma as a strong team not only in the West but across the entire NWAC but LCC is the reining 3x NWAC champion and they are once again a top team in the NWAC, possibly even the top team.
