Who are some key returning position players and what do you hope to see from them this year?
Abe Affholter – SS. Improved offense this year to go with compete pure shortstop package on the defensive side.
Nate Cain – OF. Top returning hitter on club who is so consistent in every aspect of the game.
Harrison Clark – 1B and Hayden Byorick – 1B. Both big time hitters.
Who are your key returning pitchers and why?
Cam Hoiland – LHP firm with 4 pitches and strike thrower.
Ryan Lynch – RHP. Former Oregon State commit now low 90’s and another 4 pitch guy.
Rylen Bayne – RHP. Our top returning arm and starter from last year.
Jake Kaepernick – LHP. Starter from last year who has made the adjustments to be a dominant LHP in the conference.
Do you have an incoming impact freshman or transfers that will help the team in 2023?
Evan Holman – C / 3B. Switch hitting catcher from North Marion HS in Oregon. He’s strong and athletic. Already signed with Old Dominion University.
What was the focus and what things did you see from the team in the fall?
Confidence, repeatability, trust knowing we have a core group that includes 70% of our entire innings pitched returning this spring.
What are the expectations and goals for the team entering the season?
Continue the 50+ year tradition of the program which last had a losing season in the early 1970’s. The club’s been solid for decades and intend on keeping that way.
