Given the sheer number of NWAC games, as well as the amazing fact that a few teams are getting me recaps to put up I’ve decided to split the NWAC recap in half. In time I hope this actually allows me to highlight even more players from the NW.
South Region
Mt Hood vs Chemeketa – Mt Hood and Chemeketa both came into their weekend series sporting 4-0 records, but it was the Saints who would walk away from the weekend series taking 3 out of the 4 games as the bats were red hot. Mt Hood had run-rule victories in both games on Friday at Chemeketa winning game one 14-1 and game two 21-7. Ezra Samperi, Adam Stevens, Jacob Dukart, Andrew Ferneau and Travis Wiese all had multiple hits. Stevens and Trevor Saire each drove in 3 runs. Tucker Grote picked up the win on the mound. The bats stayed hot in game two as the Saints tallied 18 hits, led by multi-hit games from Rikuu Nishida, Samperi, Dylan Carson, Jacob Cobb and Wiese. Samperi hit a 2-run homer on his way to a 4 RBI game. Carson and Michah Foskett also drove in 4 runs each.. Riley Aggson picked up win number two on the season. Kaden Doten and Sean Alvarado had 2 hits each to lead the Storm.
On Sunday the series shifted to Mt Hood CC and the Saints bats continued to produce as they put 10 more runs and 12 more hits on the board, but the offense took a back seat to the pitching performance of Jacob Biesterfeld, who tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Adam Stevens made a diving catch on a line drive at shortstop to end the 7th and preserve the no-hitter. Five Saints had 2 hits each to lead the offense.
Chemeketa bounced back to take game 4 of the series 4-3. Caleb Beach and Doten had RBI base hits, while Colby Grace and Greyson Hanowell each had a sac fly for Chemeketa. Kane Kiaunis picked up the win on the mound, scattering 9 hits over 6 innings. Jaret Stewart added 2 scoreless innings of relief and Eric Kessler pitched the 9th to earn the save.
Linn Benton vs Umpqua – In a matchup of two solid South teams it would be Linn Benton who would end the weekend with a series win taking 3 of 4 against Umpqua. Eric Hill and Taylor Ott would both have solid starts for Linn Benton on the weekend. Hill would go 5 innings only allowing 1 run to collect a win and Ott would go 7 innings, striking out 9, walking none and only allowing 2 runs. In Umpqua’s victory they would also get a strong pitching performance as Carson Angeroth would go 6 innings striking out 7 and only allowing 1 unearned run.
Southwestern Oregon vs Lane – The Titans would look to improve their record .500 on the season if they could win the series against SWOCC. They would do just that taking 3 out of 4 on the weekend. Henry Proger, Mason Crowson, Trenton Hough and Trey Werner would combine to throw a shutout and only allow 3 hits for the Titans.
North Region
Edmonds vs Olympic – Edmonds would take on Olympic in a 4 game series and their pitching would lead the way as they only would allow 5 total runs across the 4 games. Josh Latimer, Kaden Lewis and Ayden Heitmann would combine for a shutout with 11 total K’s. In Sunday’s double header Taylo Derouin and Tatsuya Uemoto would combine to only allow 1 run in a win as would Eric Shinjo, Michael Buchanan, and Aidan Urbano.
Bellevue vs Everett – In what might have been the best overall matchup of the weekend Bellevue and Everett would end up splitting each of the double headers. Zach Boswell would have an outstanding outing for Everett, going 6 innings and only allowing 1 hit. Austin McMinds would help lead Bellevue offensively collecting 7 hits and scoring 4 times from the lead off spot.
