2020 was going to be the year that the Riverhawks were going to step out onto the NWAC stage and see what they could do. The team was set and ready to see where it stood in its first year back in the sport of baseball.
However, after just 10 games into their season, going 5-5, the season ended. Located in Roseburg, OR, Umpqua CC is located in the heart of a baseball community that sometimes gets overlooked in the NW. There chance to really see what they can do might have been delayed a year, but it hasn’t slowed them down in their preparation to compete.

Key Returning Position Players
Mike Freund- SS – A very athletic shortstop who has the potential to be a very special player that can hit for power. Athleticism and power at the SS position can really impact a team.
Charlie Updegrave- 1B/C Updegrave is a true power hitter. Despite having 2020 cut short he has used the time to improve in every aspect of the game.
Key Returning Pitchers
Preston Johnson – RHP – Has the ability to work out of a variety of roles, but has the potential to earn a spot in the starting rotation. Returned this year stronger and in better shape in preparation for 2021.
Tyler Lilly – RHP – The hardest worker on the team, Lilly will be a key piece for the Riverhawks coming out of the pen this year.
Key Incoming Players
Tyson Wallace – INF- Wallace, a redshirt transfer from LC State give the Riverhawks a talented glove with his plus defense and is developing his skills in the batters box as well.
Jason Leon – A freshman from Indio, CA, Leon adds versatility to the Riverhawks as he can play anywhere in the infield, and can bolster the pitching staff as he has a chance to be the closer this year.
Expectations for 2021
