1. What are some areas of your game that you have been focusing on lately to improve upon?
An area of my game that I spend a lot of time focusing on is my mentality. Baseball is a game that will break you down if you are not mentally tough. As a hitter if you are successful 3/10 times you are considered great. You will go through slumps and must stay positive throughout them, not letting them consume you. Failure is a major part of this game and you have to be comfortable with that, learning from your mistakes and becoming better from them. I have found that having a strong mindset better sets you up for success on the field.
2. What are some goals and dreams you hope to reach in the next couple of years?
A goal that I have is moving on and continuing to play at a four-year school after my time at the JUCO level. Finding a school that is a good fit for me both academically and athletically will be what is most important when it comes time to make my decision. I want to keep playing baseball for as long as I can, however after I am done, I want to go to med school in hopes to become a physician.
3. How long have you been playing baseball and what got you started in the game?
I started playing baseball when I was in Kindergarten, it was T-Ball, and ever since then I have loved the game. I played many other sports growing up and even other sports in high school but my passion for the sport of baseball has always been stronger than the others. Every summer day as a kid, my friends from my neighborhood and I would play wiffle ball for hours on end, I could never get enough baseball and just fell in love with the game.
4. What are some of your favorite things about the game of baseball?
My favorite thing about baseball is that it is a team sport full of individual matchups. You get to compete as a team, while also being able to set personal goals to strive towards. I also greatly value all the friendships and memories that I have made playing this great game. When you are a part of a baseball team you create bonds that can only be made by going through the ups and downs of a season together, nothing beats this, and that is why I love baseball so much.
5. Who in your life has helped push you to be your best on the field?
I cannot attribute this to just one person as I am fortunate enough to have many people help me along the way. I will start with my dad, he played baseball growing up and was my first coach. He has pushed me to be the best I can be and will do anything to help me succeed; as well as my mom and the rest of my family always being in my corner. A lot of credit can go to all the coaches I have had as well, specifically those at Northwest Bandits and Newport High School. Finally, all my teammates who compete with me every day to make me better. All these people have been major influences on my life and are a big reason as to how I have gotten to where I am today.
