Located in one of the more spectacular areas in the state of Washington, Wenatchee Valley College offers one of the more amazing views at a baseball field that you will find. (Don’t believe me, check out the view in the picture I ‘borrowed’ from WVC’s twitter recently)
WVC is looking to really make strides in 2021 and step into a role of yearly competitor in the East region. Head coach Zach Clanton has already begun to show a change in the program in his young tenure with the team, and I expect more amazing baseball will be played in front of the amazing backgrounds.
Head Coach – Zach Clanton
Key Returning Position Players
Ben Leid – Although Leid will be considered a freshman due to Covid, he showed early on his potential in 2020. With the potential to be a top level catcher in the NWAC due to his arm strength and athleticism, Leid can make a mark on defense as well as offensively. High power and high walk rate will put him square in the middle of the WVC lineup.
Gavin Ayers – Ayers gives WVC a centerfielder with a tremendous amount of speed in the field and on the basepaths. His quick bat speed will give him opportunities to get on base and create chaos for opposing teams defenses.
Key Returning Pitchers
Justin Bates – Bates a third year player for WVC has shown consistent development while in the program. His fastball has increased 8-9 MPH with the increase in muscle and size. His fastball, slider combination will challenge the hitters he faces each at bat.
Devin Fry – With a projectable frame and and an athletic family history, grandpa and uncle’s have coached division 1 and professional football, Fry has the potential to continue to make strides in his development. His pitches have great movement and his velocity his continuing to grow..
Key Incoming Players
Thomas Blakney – Blakney will be a two way player for WVC, manning third base and being a regular in the starting rotation. Had a great fall on both the mound and at the plate.
Gabe DeJesus – DeJesus, a shortstop who has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact for WVC. A top of the order type hitter who does a great job getting on base and swiping bags, without sacrificing power in doing so.
Expecations for 2021
“The only expectation that I have is that we go out there this year and get better. These guys have gotten to play a ton of baseball over the course of the last year, and we are looking to continue getting better and moving these guys onto 4 year institutions. I feel the pitching will give us a chance against everyone in the Eastern Region,” head coach Zach Clanton.
