I got the chance to make it out to a local high school game between Kelso and Mountain View. It was an amazing game on an evening that wasn’t raining, at least now during the game. Now before I jump into the game I got to give a shout out to the Kelso JV team as their starting pitcher would throw a no hitter, and from what I heard was only a walk away from a perfect game. Not sure who the starting pitcher was but that is awesome.
Covering this game was interesting as a few local high schools are ending their seasons while Kelso’s season is just getting underway. For me it is nice having more games to cover but weird having different season for local teams.
The varsity game had a tremendous pitching performance as well. Carter Gaston started for Kelso and pitched really well. There were moments where he looked like he was going to break but with a breath and a moment to refocus he was able to get right back on track.
For Kelso their offense started with their lead off hitter Tegan Connors, whose speed on the base paths led to the first two runs of the game for Kelso. In Connors’ second at bat he would lay down a nearly perfect drag bunt down the third base line, which would lead to him scoring for the second time in the game.
For Mountain View they never let the game slip away from them and threatened in the top of the 7th to tie the game up. Down 2 runs they were able to get runners on 2nd and 3rd and kept the pressure on Kelso until the final out.
Kelso would win the game 4-2, but both teams put out a great performance and it was a lot of fun to be able to get out there and cover both teams.
