How did your players handle losing the 2020 season?
My players were extremely frustrated, like most HS athletes. They believed they had a real chance at winning the state title last season and wanted to redeem themselves from a state championship loss to Asotin in 2019. They were extremely eager to get out onto the field and get that bad taste of a title loss out of their system. To say they were disappointed would be an understatement!
Key 2021 Class Players
Tommy Brandenburg– Pitcher/Outfield – Brandenburg is a University of Oregon commit. He is throwing in the low 90’s and has multiple pitches that he throws with extreme confidence, and keeps hitters off-balance with an outstanding, true 12-6 curveball. His leadership skills, both on and off the field, are second to none. He truly is every coach’s dream.
Ryan Cooney– Pitcher/1st Base – Cooney has a powerful bat and is a presence on the mound. He comes downhill and the ball gets on the hitter quickly. He is an uncommitted Senior that has all the tools at playing at the next level.
Brady Burns– 2nd Base – Burns has a great baseball IQ and is very smooth in the field. He is a true contact hitter who uses all parts of the field. He is also a really good baserunner. He should have a strong season, and hit near the top of the lineup, for the Chinooks this year.
Shayden Jones– Pitcher/Shortstop – Jones is a long, athletic shortstop who hits at the top of the lineup. He uses all parts of the field and can hit with power. Defensively he has great range and is a very smart baseball player.
Key 2022 Class Players
Noah Imboden– Pitcher/Outfield. Noah is a strong lefty pitcher, who has verbally committed to Lower Columbia College. Noah has great movement to all pitches and is very difficult to square up as a hitter. He should have a very dominating 2021 season on the mound.
Keaton Fisher– Pitcher/3rd Base. Keaton is an uncommitted corner infielder, who has tremendous power at the plate. Keaton is a true clean-up hitter, and the ball explodes off his bat. Defensively, Keaton has a strong arm and great glove.
Hopes, expectations, and goals for 2021
This team is very experienced and doesn’t have a lot of holes. I expect them to do very well and continue their success that they built from the 2019 season. Most of these players played in the title game from the 2019 season and they are hungry to not lose many games. Although the strong possibility of not having a full postseason is frustrating, these players all have a team goal, or expectation, of not losing any games this season. As a coach, I want these players to enjoy this season and understand that we can’t take playing a game we all love for granted, especially after having their season ripped away last year. For the underclassmen, it’ll be extremely important to continue to work hard and develop their skills for (hopefully) a full season next year.
