1. Who was the season MVP?
We had contributions throughout the roster all season. There were 9 players chosen all-conference so we had many different players who had great seasons. Each weekend it seemed as if there was a different player leading the charge on offense.
2. Who was your team Cy Young?
Layton Wagner was voted all-conference and Brady Joyner was clutch at the end of games but again, we had big outings from our entire staff all season.
3. Any freshman or sophomores that stepped up to contribute this year.
A great percentage of our at bats/ innings were by freshman and sophomores. Sam Daly had some unreal weekends at the plate. Luke Werkmeister-Martin was in the middle of all of our big innings. Jeff Hoffman steadily improved all season and was selected Freshman of the Year by the conference coaches. JD Willis and Brady Joyner were very impressive as freshmen out of the bullpen.
4. Juniors and/or seniors who stepped into leadership roles and had an impact on the team.
Mike Nelsen and Sean Little were key leaders on the team and had fantastic seasons. The entire leadership council deserves a lot of credit for pushing our guys through the unknowns of the last 12 months.
5. What were some key moments in the season for you and the team?
We had a couple of early wins in close games that made a difference in the teams confidence. Our come from behind win at Whitworth gave us a huge boost into the last half of the season. We battled through adversity and didn’t lose a series all season.
6. Your biggest take away from the 2021 season.
It was a great year. With so much uncertainty getting to play was a blessing. It created perspective on what matters. I was happy with how the program grew. All the teams in the conference are tough so being in the championship game of the tournament will be valuable experience for future teams.
7. The outlook for the 2022 season.
We are going to miss the senior class. They brought a lot of energy and leadership to the program. We are loaded with talented players coming back who are motivated to have their own dogpile. That coupled with a very good incoming recruiting class and we have high expectations for next season.
Are you gonna be doing a PLU recap?? If so when can we expect too see it?? Keep up great job!! #GoLutes
Trying to do one for any and all teams, just depends on if the coaches get info back to me. If they get stuff back to me I put them on the schedule and if not I don’t know the teams well enough to do the articles.
