Another great weekend of NW Baseball was highlighted by a lot of runs being scored and a fair number of balls flying out of ball parks all across the region.
Great Northwest Athletic Conference
Northwest Nazarene vs Western Oregon – What a difference a day makes. Western Oregon would come out on Friday to sweep the first double header, but with a new day came new outcomes as Northwest Nazarene would rebound and sweep Saturday’s double header. Josh Berman (WOU) would have a solid weekend at the plate getting 5 hits, 2 of which were home runs. Grant Kerry would also have a solid weekend for Northwest Nazarene, getting 7 hits and 5 RBIs.
St Martin’s vs Central Washington – St Martin’s would start the series off by earning a split of Saturday’s double header but Central Washington would assert their power on Sunday sweeping the double header and winning the series 3-1. Central Washington would explode for 30 runs in the first game on Sunday, led offensively by the first two hitters in their lineup. Zac Berryman would collect 5 hits, score 5 runs and drive in 5 runs, while Justin Hampson would follow that with 6 hits, 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs in that single game.
Northwest Conference
Pacific Lutheran vs Puget Sound – In a matchup of Rivals it would be Pacific Lutheran that would come out on top with a sweep of Puget Sound. The Lutes would be led by Jordan Haworth offensively as he would collect 9 hits and score 7 runs. The sweep moves Pacific Lutheran to 10-5 in conference and into 2nd place.
George Fox vs Lewis and Clark – WIth both teams looking to make moves in the ranking this matchup would have some pretty big importance. In the end George Fox would take the series 3 game to 1. Marc Audet would absolutely tear the cover off the ball this weekend as he homered in every game of the series, hitting 5 total home runs. He would finish the weekend with 9 hits, 8 runs scored and 12 RBIs.
Willamette vs Whitworth – Willamette would travel to Spokane and come out swinging to take the series sweep 4-0 against Whitworth. For Willamette they would hit 14 home runs over the weekend, led by Jeff Hoffman with 4 home runs and Samuel Daly with 3 home runs. Both Layton Wagner and Eric Waldichuk would go six innings in their starts each giving up just 3 ERs and picking up the wins.
Pacific vs Whitman – A matchup of the top two conference records would give both teams the chance to pull ahead. In the end it would be Pacific winning 3 out of 4 games to maintain their lead in the Conference. Kahi Bisho (Pac) would pitch 5 innings only giving up 1 run, and Derek Eubanks (Pac) would go 6 innings not giving up a run, both earning wins in their starts. Julien Hernandez (Whitman) would also have a great start throwing a complete game (7 innings) shutout with 12 Ks to get the lone win for Whitman.
Cascade Collegiate Conference
Corban vs LC State – After officially clenching the CCC regular season title LC State didn’t slow down for a minute as they put up another huge weekend offensively on their way to another sweep against a conference opponent. Brock Ephan would stand large offensively for LC State as he would get 10 hits, score 10 runs and drive in 11 RBIs.
College of Idaho vs Eastern Oregon – College of Idaho would travel to Eastern Oregon looking at an opportunity to move into 2nd in the CCC and with a 3-1 series win they now are tied with Corban for 2nd with their conference records. Austin Van Horne would be a key reason for the series win as he would collect at least one hit in each of the 4 games and 12 total hits. He would also score 7 runs and knock in 7 RBIs.
