Who are some key returning players for the team and what do you hope to see from each of them this year?
Miles Gosztola: Building off of a state record for strikeouts and a dominant year on the bump we expect the same competitor and to become the leader this year for us as it will be big shoes to fill from last year.
Jake Lockwood: Was a unit behind the plate and shut the running game down last year. Was the RBI leader last year and hoping for the same this year. Big impact bat in the middle of the order and a leader on the field running the pitching staff and defense.
Caden Fahy: saved us a lot of runs at SS and was a major contributor in the top of the order. Looking for him to continue the path he created for himself last year as a major impact bat and is a quality arm we will lean on throughout the year.
Cooper Hubbard: Top of the lineup bat with some pop and great defensively in the OF looking for his continued success in the lineup driving in runs .
Matthew Henning: was a major 2 way player last year for us. Will be one of the main starting pitchers for us this year and top of the lineup guy taking bags like he did last year for us.
Who are some key underclassmen that are moving up in the program and can make an impact? What do you hope to see from each of them this year?
Lukas Cheha : Big body OF with pop in the bat that might fight for some major Varsity time. I hope he comes into the year stronger and faster then last year as the swing will play for us when the opportunity arises. A few freshman coming in might fly through the program and if the opportunity arises might get there feet wet in Varsity.
What areas will you be focusing on early in the season?
Situation hitting and base running will be an important factor for us. Offense fell short last year at the end of the year and situationally we didn’t score runs when had runners in scoring position. The pitching staff we have we expect them to go out and give up nothing every outing. Obviously that’s not going to always happen and we play some really good pitchers in our league so situational hitting and smart base running will separate us from other teams.
What are the expectations and goals for the team in 2023?
We expect to make another deep run in state and bring a ring home for West Seattle. Expectations are high as we have major key players coming back. We know getting through metro will be tough as heck with the amount of talent this league currently has. I believe last year we faced 5 D1 arms just in our league.
