Who are some key returning players for the team and what do you hope to see from each of them this year?
Sr. OF Jadon Grossnickle returns after a 2nd team All-KingCo season where he hit .333. He should set the table for the Highlanders young, but experienced, offense that has the likes of 1st team All-KingCo Jr. P/IF Isaac Lee (.394 AVG, .500 OBP), Jr. UTIL Morrie Solam (.353 AVG, .450 OBP), and Jr. P/IF Marcus McCarthy. Jr. P Zan Siebersma returns at the top of a deep rotation. In total, the Highlanders will return 11 players that played significant innings on varsity last season.
Who are some key underclassmen that are moving up in the program and can make an impact? What do you hope to see from each of them this year?
So P/OF Alvin Chang played 19 games as a freshman, hitting .283 and will be looked upon to take the next step as an all-league type player. Jr. OF Riley Ottele played a partial V season, hitting .308 in 11 games and will be battling for an everyday top of the order spot.
What areas will you be focusing on early in the season?
The 2023 Highlanders will be young and hungry. Early season travel and tests again tough competition will help develop the mental toughness, team centric mindset, and experience needed to have success in a difficult KingCo league.
What are the expectations and goals for the team in 2023?
A Sophomore heavy team in 2022 that got its first taste of KingCo playoff baseball will return as upperclassmen to go further this time around. The team will be looking to improve everyday and be playing its best baseball late in the season. Advancing out of KingCo and claiming a state berth is not out of the question.
