One of the most storied programs in NWAC history, Yakima Valley College looks to continue their legacy of talented and competitive teams.
Located in central Washington, the Yaks are surrounded by the beauty of the mountains, but that can sometimes come with a price of battling the elements (snow and ice) early on in the year. However, like JUCO teams across the country they have learned to adapt and use what they have to develop their skills.

Key Returning Position Players
Connor Coballes—A 3rd year Sophomore, Coballes brings veteran leadership to the Yaks this season. He was a starter for the Yaks his freshman season in the infield and gained valuable experience in the 2019 NWAC Tourney. His stand out level of defense will set the tone for the entire Yaks team.
Donald Saltiban— Another 3rd year Sophomore, Saltiban gives the Yaks a great deal of flexibility in the utility role. From Hilo, HI, Saltiban was previously ranked as a top 85 JUCO player in the country. A 5 tool athlete who is a prime example of a JUCO grinder that prides himself on work ethic. His example and leadership will have an impact on the freshman class.
Key Returning Pitchers
Tyler Frieders – 3rd year freshman, right handed pitcher Frieders brings a bulldog mentality to the pitching staff. He was a starter for the Yaks in the shortened 2020 season and is looking to make his mark this season. A mentally strong athlete whose competitiveness overflows to the rest of his team.
Dann Blanchard – Blanchard, a right handed pitcher and 2nd year freshman, is another returning starter for the Yaks. With a competitive mindset paired with a big frame, he is able to deliver an upper 80’s fastball with solid off-speed offerings.
Key Incoming Players
Rowan Ramsay – A five tool player who can play all over the diamond, Ramsay comes to the Yaks as a transfer from Menlo College. Ramsay brings a high baseball IQ with a solid work ethic.
Edwin Swartman – Swartman is a 6’6 right handed pitcher who touches the upper 80s with his fastball and pairs that with quality secondary stuff. Despite being a freshman he brings a polished approach to the mound and could be a key contributor to the Yaks pitching staff early on.
Expectations for 2021
The Yaks look to continue their tradition of excellence, and the players are hungry and ready to compete after an extended amount of time off. Look for the Yaks to be a top contender in East Region.
