How did your players handle losing the 2020 season?

The cancellation of the 2020 season hit our program hard. The senior class was impacted the most, with eight guys missing out on their final high school season, many of whom never played again. Our younger guys missed out on a ton of learning opportunities and chances to prove themselves to their peers and coaching staff. As coaches, we lost out on time with kids we have watched grow up, we missed out on teaching moments, as well as hit with a new situation no one was prepared to handle. Overall, our teams handled it the best they could given the circumstances.

Key 2021 Players

Luke Zmolik- RHP – Butler Baseball Commit- Zmolik will be a dominant force in the rotation. Hoping to follow up a very strong Sophomore season, where he recorded 33 strikeouts in 37.2 IP. He was a big piece in Monroe’s run to the State tournament in 2019.

Nate Cain- OF- Uncommitted- Cain will man Centerfield once again for Monroe. As a Sophomore he hit .362, with just 3 strikeouts in 66 plate appearances. Defensively, he covers a lot of ground with very successful routes and speed. A strong, accurate arm plays well in all 3 outfield positions. He will be one to keep an eye on!

Ryan Lynch- RHP/1B – Uncommitted- Lynch will look to be back at the top of the rotation along with playing the corners. He has been a staple in the rotation since his Freshman year, where he helped lead Monroe to a WESCO playoff appearance. As a Sophomore he recorded a 4-2 record with a 1.79 era in 43 IP.

Key 2022 Players

Tyler Hogan- MIF/RHP – Uncommitted – Hogan is a strong, athletic middle infielder with some serious pop in the bat. Defensively shows great range, arm strength. Will be a very exciting player to watch.

Griffin Montana – 1B – Uncommitted – Montana is a show- stopper. While excelling in football as a lineman, he continues to show his talents on the diamond. A very athletic, mobile 1st baseman for his size. Raw power and strength at the plate. Hits to all sides of the field!

Key 2023 Players

Cody Edelbrock- UTIL – A multi-sport talent, Edelbrock brings athleticism and leadership to the younger class. His athleticism shows on both sides of the ball, bringing a contact approach at the plate, with speed to the base paths. His ability to play all over the field makes for a bright future ahead!

Ryland Hampton- C – A multisport athlete who plays football, baseball, and wrestling, Hampton brings raw strength and power to the diamond. While behind the dish, he is not afraid to put his body on the line, creating trust within the pitching staff. At the plate, the raw power is evident, as he matures it will be fun to watch!

Connor Campbell- RHP/3B – Campbell brings an advance knowledge of pitching to the young pitching staff. He spins a 3-pitch mix that is constantly in the zone. He is one of few that can really pitch it at his age. Will be exciting to watch him grow up!

Goals and Expectations for 2021

The main goal is to get these young athletes back on the fields and back to a sense of normality. Once on the field, our goal is to teach these players as much as we can about the game of baseball, and hopefully find places for a few to continue their careers both academically and athletically. As a program, we want all our players to grow and learn from the top down. Statistically speaking, we want to dominate the game in every way we can, ending with a Regional Championship for our hard work! That should be the goal every year, be the last man standing. End the season on a W! We look forward to a season full of excitement for Bearcat Baseball!
